# Understand a directory listing

> What a directory listing page shows, what each status and check on it does and does not mean, and how to give from each kind of listing.

A directory listing is a profile page for one organization. It tells you who the organization is and how to reach it, and it says plainly what DonorCARE has and has not checked. A listing is not a recommendation.

## Before you start

No account needed. Anyone can open a listing. See [Find an organization in the directory](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/npo-directory/) to find one.

## What a listing shows

Along the top you see a trail back to the Directory, the organization's category and state, its name (and its name in another language where it has one), and where the organization provides them, a one-line tagline and a short description. Below that, the page is split into sections you can jump between: **Updates**, **What They Do**, **Gallery**, **Ways to Give** and **Contact**. A section only appears when the page has something to put in it.

Beside the main text, a card of facts lists what is recorded: **Category**, **Type**, **Established**, **Registration no.**, **Website**, **Email**, **Phone**, **WhatsApp**, **Address** (with a link to open it in Google Maps) and **Follow** links for social pages. Where recorded, the page also shows opening hours and a short summary of languages, accessibility and payment methods. A fact that nobody has recorded is left out, not shown as a "no".

At the bottom, a line tells you when the listing record was last updated.

## The terms

**Runs on DonorCARE** — the organization collects donations through DonorCARE. It shows as the DonorCARE logo mark; hover over it, focus it or tap it to read the words. The page is clear that this is a billing fact, not a check of the organization's work. In the directory filters it appears as **Runs on DonorCARE**.

**Claimed** — someone at the organization has taken control of the listing and can edit it. The page says: "Claiming is not a check — it says who edits the page, not whether we vetted them."

**Unclaimed** — nobody has claimed the listing. The page says the details come from public sources, may be out of date, and nobody at the organization has confirmed them.

**Tax-deductible** — a green tag under the name. It means the listing is recorded as approved under section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967. Where the record says the organization is not approved, the page's questions section says so. DonorCARE has not checked this itself, so confirm with the organization before you claim tax relief. See [When a donation is tax-deductible](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/tax-deductible-donations/).

## What DonorCARE has checked

Each listing has a panel called **What DonorCARE has checked**. It lists each check on its own, with **Checked** or **Not checked** beside it and, once done, the date. There is no overall rating, and passing one check says nothing about the others.

- **Contact email confirmed** — someone replied from the contact address on file. This shows the address reaches the organization. It is not a check of who they are or what they do.
- **Registration number checked against SSM/ROS** — the organization was looked up in the public register. This confirms it is registered, not how it spends what it receives.

If nothing has been checked, the panel says so in words: "Nothing. DonorCARE has not checked anything about [the organization], and this listing is not a recommendation." The **Other facts** list in the same panel repeats whether the listing is claimed and whether the organization collects donations through DonorCARE.

## Where the information comes from

Details on an unclaimed listing come from public sources. When an organization claims its listing, it can add and correct details itself, and the page tells you when it was claimed. If you spot something wrong, see [Suggest an edit to a listing](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/suggest-an-edit-to-a-listing/).

## Questions on the page

Near the bottom, a questions section answers, for that listing:

- **Is [the organization] tax-deductible?** (shown only when this is recorded)
- **Has DonorCARE verified [the organization]?** It lists exactly what was checked, or says "No" if nothing was.
- **Can I donate to [the organization] through DonorCARE?**
- Any questions the organization has added itself.
- **How do I contact [the organization]?** (shown only when a contact detail is recorded)
- **How do I raise a concern about [the organization]?**

## How to give from a listing

What you do depends on the listing.

1. **The organization runs on DonorCARE.** Select **Donate Now** (at the top of the page, or in the **Donate through DonorCARE** panel). You give through DonorCARE and receive an official receipt by email. See [Making a donation](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/making-a-donation/).
2. **The organization is claimed but does not collect through DonorCARE.** If it has shared giving instructions, they are shown in a panel headed **This NPO accepts donations**, and in **Ways to Give**. Follow those instructions. Where the page offers it, use **I've paid — get my receipt** after you pay to ask the organization for a receipt.
3. **The organization is claimed but has shared no instructions.** There is no giving panel. Use the contact details on the page, or see [Contact the organization you gave to](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/contacting-an-organization/).
4. **Nobody has claimed the listing.** The panel is headed **Nobody has claimed this listing** and DonorCARE has no donation flow for it. If you are part of the organization, select **Claim this listing**. See [Claim your organization's listing](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/claim-our-listing/).

To see only organizations you can give to through DonorCARE today, turn on **Accepting donations now** in the directory filters.

## Other things you can do on a listing

- Use the heart to save it, and the compare button to compare it. See [Compare and save organizations](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/compare-and-save-organizations/).
- Use the share button to share the page.
- Open the **More** menu (three dots) and choose **Raise a concern**, or use **Raise a concern** at the bottom of the page. See [Raise a concern about an organization](https://donorcare.my/help/donors/raise-a-concern/).
- If the organization has a success story, a link reads **Read their success story →**.
