Raise a concern about an organization

Report a concern about a non-profit organization listed in the DonorCARE directory, and check where your report is up to.

If something about an organization in the directory worries you, you can send DonorCARE a report. You get a reference and a private link to follow where it is up to.

  • You do not need an account.
  • If someone is in danger, contact the emergency numbers first. DonorCARE reads reports on working days and is not an emergency service. The form shows these numbers whenever your answers suggest an emergency (see below).
  • Start from the organization’s page so DonorCARE knows who the report is about. If you open the form without choosing an organization, it asks you to find the organization in the directory and choose Raise a concern.
  • You will be asked for facts: what you saw, who was involved and when. Leave out other people’s ID numbers and bank details.
  1. Open the organization’s listing. Choose Raise a concern from the More menu (three dots) at the top of the page, or at the bottom of the page. See Understand a directory listing. The form is headed Raise a concern. It tells you: “A person at DonorCARE reads every report. We never tell the organisation who you are.”

  2. What Happened. Under What Is Your Report About?, choose the topic that fits best. The choice decides who DonorCARE may pass the report to. Each topic has a short description and, where it applies, a “Goes to:” line. If none fits, choose Something else.

  3. Details. Say whether it is Not urgent or Someone is at immediate risk. Then answer:

    • What happened? (required). Give the facts.
    • When did it happen?, or tick It is still happening. The date cannot be in the future.
    • Amount involved (RM), if any. Write a number, for example 250 or 250.50.
    • Have you reported this before? Choose from the list or leave Prefer not to say.
    • How are you connected to them? Choose from the list (for example donor, volunteer, member) or leave Prefer not to say.
  4. Evidence. This step is called Photos or Documents and is optional. “Screenshots, photos, receipts or letters can help us check what happened. Only DonorCARE reviewers can open them.” Select Add photos or documents and add files. You can use JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or PDF files, and the screen shows the size and number limits. To skip, select Continue without files.

  5. About You. Contact details let DonorCARE ask a question if something is unclear. Only DonorCARE reviewers see them, and they are not given to the organization. You choose one of two ways:

    • Give contact details. Enter your email, your phone, or both. Your name (optional) is optional.
    • Send this anonymously. Tick this box. The form says: “We store nothing about you: no name, no contact details, and no IP address. We can’t update you or ask follow-up questions. You will still get a link to see where your report is up to.”
  6. Review. The page is headed Check Your Report. Read each group and select Change to fix anything. Tick “What I have written is true to the best of my knowledge.”, complete the check that asks you to confirm you are a person, then select Send report.

You see We have your report with:

  • Your reference. Keep it.
  • Save This Link Now. The private link is the only way to check on your report. It can only be shown to you once, and DonorCARE cannot get it back for you if you lose it. Select Copy the link to copy it.
  • What Happens Next. A person at DonorCARE reads your report. The page gives a date it aims to start by, and says: “This is a target, not a promise.” DonorCARE decides where the report should go and may pass it on. It never tells the organization who you are and does not change the organization’s public profile because of one report.
  • Who to Contact Yourself. Where there is a public body that handles this kind of matter, the page shows how to reach it. Where there is not, the heading is Where This May Go and the page says DonorCARE will read your report and decide where it should go.

A banner headed If someone is in danger, get help now appears when the topic you chose is marked as an emergency, when you choose Someone is at immediate risk, or when DonorCARE returns one after you send. It lists the numbers to call, WhatsApp or email first, for example the national emergency number.

Open the private link you saved. Use the whole link: the long code after the # sign is needed. The page shows Where it is now: Received, Being looked at or Closed, with the dates it started and closed. It also shows “We aim to start looking by” and the history of changes. The page says it “shows only where your report is up to. It never shows what was written about it.” Once a report is Closed, DonorCARE cannot share the details of what was decided.

What you see What it means What to do
“Choose what your report is about.” You did not choose a topic. Choose one, or Something else.
“Tell us what happened in at least 10 characters.” The description is too short. Add detail.
“Give an email or a phone number so we can reach you, or choose to stay anonymous.” You left contact details blank without choosing anonymous. Add a contact, or tick Send this anonymously.
“Please tick the box to confirm what you wrote is true.” You have not confirmed your report. Tick the box on the review step.
“We couldn’t load the list of topics. Please refresh the page to try again. If someone is in danger, use the numbers above.” The topics did not load. Refresh the page.
“We couldn’t confirm you’re a person. Please try the check again, then send your report.” The check did not pass. Repeat the check, then select Send report.
“You’ve sent a lot of reports from this connection.” Too many reports were sent from your connection. Try again later.
“We couldn’t attach your files. Go back to the files step and add them again, or continue without them.” The files did not attach. Add them again or send without files.
“We couldn’t find that organization any more. Go back to its page and start again.” The organization’s page is gone. Search the directory and start again.
“We couldn’t reach the server. Check your connection and try again. Your answers are still here.” Your connection dropped. Try again. Your answers are kept.
“We couldn’t find a report for this link. Check that you opened the whole link you saved. The part after the # is needed.” The status link is incomplete. Open the full link you saved.
