Register names for your offerings
How to fill in memorial and blessing tablet names on a dharma event page, and what the missing 已故 / IMO hint means.
On a dharma event page you choose offerings, such as a memorial tablet 往生莲位 or a blessing tablet 延生禄位, and then type the names that go on each one. This page explains each name box, the limits you may meet, and how to fix a name after you have paid.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Open the dharma event’s campaign page. If you are not sure you are on one, see What’s on a campaign page.
- Have the names ready, written the way you want them printed. Chinese and English both work.
- You don’t need an account. If you sign in, the form can offer your saved names as quick-fill buttons (see step 6).
- The form is available in Chinese and English. Use the language switch on the donor site if you prefer one over the other.
-
Tick the offerings you want. Under Choose Offerings, each offering shows its name and price. Tick one to open its entries. An offering that has sold out is marked 功德圆满 and can’t be ticked. One with a limited supply shows how many are left (剩余).
-
Pick the tier, if there is more than one. The dropdown at the top of an entry shows each price with how many names that tablet takes: 一位 (one name) or 两位 (two names) for a memorial, 一人 (one person) or 合家 (a couple or family) for a blessing, and 全家 (a whole family, many names). A package offering may ask you to Choose one between a memorial and a blessing first. Once you have typed something into the package, switch only by using the reset button, which clears what you entered.
-
Fill in a memorial entry (往生莲位). What you see depends on the organization.
- Select Memorial Type (选择供奉对象). Pick who the tablet is for. The choices vary by organization. The usual ones are:
- Surname (门堂上历代祖先): the ancestors of one family name, for example 李, 陈, 欧阳 or Lim. Type only the surname.
- Ancestors (先人): named relatives who have passed away. For each name you can tap a 称谓 (relationship) tag, such as 先父 (late father), so the tablet shows how they were related to you. A family-size tablet lets you add more with Add Ancestor.
- Karmic creditors (累劫冤亲债主): a fixed wording. There is nothing to type.
- Land deity (地基主): type the address of the property.
- Other (其他): one line of free text for anyone else, such as 水陆有情众生.
- Some organizations hide the type list and the 称谓 tags. You then see a single box, Name of the deceased (往生者姓名), and the tablet prints exactly what you type. Read If the form says a name is missing 已故 / IMO below.
- Select Memorial Type (选择供奉对象). Pick who the tablet is for. The choices vary by organization. The usual ones are:
-
Add 阳上 (living relatives) if the form asks. 阳上 are the living family members who make the offering on behalf of the deceased, and their names are printed on the memorial tablet too. Type their names, separated by a comma or 、. The box says the most you can list, for example “(max 4)”, or “(最多 4 名)” in Chinese. Some organizations don’t ask for 阳上 at all. When the box is shown it must be filled in, or the form won’t let you continue.
-
Fill in a blessing entry (延生禄位). Type the name of the person being blessed. On a tier that takes more than one name, add each name in turn. Some blessing tiers show a red 合家 button at the end of the box. It is on by default and adds 合家 (family) after the name, so a tablet for one person becomes a tablet for their household. Tap it to switch it off if you want the name alone.
-
Use quick-fill if you are signed in. If you have saved names on your DonorCARE account, buttons appear under the box next to Quick-fill (快速填入). Tap a name to add it. When a tablet is already full, tapping another name replaces the oldest one. A name that is already there isn’t added twice. Saved addresses appear on land deity entries, with your main address marked ★. When an organization hides 称谓, a saved deceased name is filled in with 已故 or IMO already in front of it.
-
Add more entries if you need them. Select Add More for another entry in the same offering. A package may also list Add-ons (额外加购) such as extra tablets, each with its own price. A bin button removes an entry you added. If supply is limited, Add More is replaced by “Limit reached” once no more are left.
-
Check the summary, then continue. Any box that still needs an answer is outlined in red with a short message. Fix them, then pay as in Make a donation.
How many names fit on one tablet
Section titled “How many names fit on one tablet”| The tier says | You can type | What happens at the limit |
|---|---|---|
| 一位 / 一人 | One name | The box stops accepting more. The count shows as 1/1 |
| 两位 / 合家 (couple) | Up to two names | Same, at 2/2 |
| 全家 | As many as you like | No limit |
Names are separated by a comma, 、 or the Enter key. For Chinese names a space also separates them. Pasting a list splits it into separate names for you. Symbols that don’t belong in a name are removed as you type, and each name has a length limit.
If the form says a name is missing 已故 / IMO
Section titled “If the form says a name is missing 已故 / IMO”Some organizations turn off the 称谓 tag. The tablet then prints only the name you typed, so a name with nothing in front of it reads as a living person. To prevent that, the form checks each memorial name and, when one lacks a marker, shows an amber note such as “Tan Ah Kow missing 已故 / IMO” (in Chinese, “李大明 缺少「已故」/ IMO”) with a button:
- 加上 已故 puts 已故 in front of a Chinese name. 李大明 becomes 已故李大明.
- Add IMO puts “IMO “ in front of an English name. Tan Ah Kow becomes IMO Tan Ah Kow. IMO means “in memory of”.
If a name mixes Chinese and English, you get both buttons and choose which one to add. If you typed several names, one tap fixes all of them.
Things to know:
- It is a hint, not a block. You can ignore it and continue. Use it only if the name belongs to someone who has passed away. A name you leave alone is printed exactly as typed.
- Names that already say the person has passed are left alone. That includes names beginning 已故 or IMO, and traditional forms that start with 先, 顯, 显, 故 or 亡, such as 先考.
- The button can be greyed out. The free-text box holds at most 100 characters. If adding the prefix would go over, the button is disabled and hovering shows “Over 100 characters”.
- The hint only appears when the organization has hidden 称谓. If you see the 称谓 tags beside each name, the relationship already says the person is deceased and no note is needed.
Fix a name after you have paid
Section titled “Fix a name after you have paid”Typed a name wrongly? Sign in, open the Donations & Receipts tab and select Edit names on that donation’s row. The link only appears for donations that included named offerings. Steps are in See your giving history. The amount can’t be changed there, only the names.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A box is outlined in red with “Please enter…” (请输入…) | A name, surname, address or 阳上 is still blank | Fill it in, then continue |
| “Required” (必填) under a question | The organization asks an extra question for each entry | Answer it. A star marks required ones |
| “Max … — remove … name(s)” (阳上最多 … 名) | You listed more 阳上 names than this tablet allows | Remove the number of names it tells you |
| Amber note “missing 已故 / IMO” (缺少「已故」/ IMO) | A memorial name has no 已故 or IMO in front of it | Tap the button to add it, or ignore it if the person is living |
| Can’t type another name in a box | The tablet’s name limit is reached (for example 1/1) | Delete a name first, or choose a larger tier |
| The minimum donation message after you continue | The total is below the organization’s minimum | Add another offering, as the message says |
| No Quick-fill buttons | You aren’t signed in, or you have no saved names yet | Type the names, or create an account |
