Register a CHIP account
DonorCARE takes online donations through CHIP, a Malaysian payment gateway. Before you can connect your payment gateway, your organisation needs its own CHIP account — registering takes around fifteen minutes, then CHIP reviews your application before you can go live.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”Have these ready — the form asks for them part-way through, and you can’t finish without them:
- Your organisation’s registration number — CHIP uses it to fill in your registration details for you.
- A mobile phone for the organisation’s representative, to receive a one-time TAC code by SMS.
- An IC copy (front and back) of the owner, and of every partner or shareholder holding more than 25%.
- The header of a recent bank statement for the account donations should settle into.
- Your website address. If you don’t have one, your organisation’s social media page is accepted instead.
You don’t have to finish in one sitting. To pick up where you left off, go to www.chip-in.asia, select Start Now, enter the same email address, and follow Continue Onboarding in the email CHIP sends you.
-
Go to www.chip-in.asia and select Start Now.
-
Enter your email address, tick the “I’m not a robot” check, and select Start Now. Use an address your organisation will keep long-term — CHIP sends your settlement reports there.
-
Open the email from CHIP and select Continue onboarding. It usually arrives within a few minutes. If you can’t find it, check your spam or junk folder.
-
Fill in the representative’s details and select Send TAC via SMS. This is the person applying on behalf of the organisation.
-
Enter the 6-digit TAC code sent to that phone number and select Continue.
-
Fill in the organisation information and select Click to Auto-fill. CHIP looks up your registration and fills in your SSM details after a few seconds. Check them, add your website (or social media) address, and select Continue.
-
Add any partners or shareholders with more than 25% ownership, then select Continue.
-
Enter the bank account donations should settle into, then select Continue. This is where CHIP pays out your collected donations.
-
Choose your payment methods. Select FPX and DuitNow QR — they are the quickest to approve and cover most Malaysian donors.
Add Cards if you want to accept recurring donations: in DonorCARE, recurring giving only works by card. Cards and e-wallets need extra documents (see step 11). You can skip Atome — it is a buy-now-pay-later option DonorCARE does not offer at checkout.
CHIP lists its transaction fees for each method at www.chip-in.asia/collect.
-
Fill in your customer support details. Donors see these on the payment page, so use a phone number and email address someone at your organisation actually answers.
-
Upload your documents. Everyone uploads:
- IC copy (front and back) of the owner and each partner or shareholder
- Your bank statement header
- Your SSM certificate and business profile, if CHIP did not fetch them automatically in step 6
Documents for cards and e-wallets
If you chose Cards or e-wallets, CHIP also asks for:
- Photos of your premises — signboard, interior and exterior. If you operate from home: your front door showing the unit number, your working space, and the outside of the house.
- A recent utility, telco or internet bill, or tenancy agreement, in your organisation’s name or the owner’s name.
- Any special licence your activity requires.
- Your website must show your refund, privacy and return policies, and your SSM registration number, business address and contact details.
-
Submit and wait for CHIP’s approval. CHIP reviews your application and emails you once your account is active.
-
Copy your Brand ID and Secret Key. Once approved, sign in to the CHIP portal and open Developers: your Brand ID is under Brands, and your Secret Key is under API Keys. These are what DonorCARE needs next.
You’re ready to connect your payment gateway.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No email from CHIP after a few minutes | It landed in spam, or the address had a typo | Check spam and junk; if it isn’t there, start again at www.chip-in.asia with the correct address |
| No TAC code arrives | The SMS was delayed or the number was mistyped | Wait for the resend timer to finish and request a new code, checking the number |
| Auto-fill doesn’t find your organisation | CHIP couldn’t match your registration — common for organisations registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) rather than SSM | Contact CHIP support before continuing and ask how to submit your registration documents |
| Cards or e-wallets still inactive after approval | Those methods are reviewed separately and need the extra documents | Upload the documents for cards and e-wallets, or ask CHIP support what is outstanding |
For anything about your CHIP application itself, contact CHIP directly on (+60)3 2935 9253, or through the contact page at www.chip-in.asia. DonorCARE can’t see or change your application.
