What LHDN e-invoicing means for you
Which of your donations need an e-invoice, and what DonorCARE does about it.
An Owner can change which roles have this in Account Access.
Malaysian tax law requires certain donations to be reported to LHDN as e-invoices. DonorCARE automates that filing once MyInvois is connected — this page explains which of your donations it covers and what happens automatically.
Why it works this way
Section titled “Why it works this way”LHDN needs every e-invoice tied to a specific document type: an individual invoice when the buyer (the donor) can be identified with a valid Malaysian tax number, or a monthly consolidated invoice for everything else. DonorCARE decides which path a donation takes based on whether it has a validated donor tax identification number (TIN) on file — never on the donation amount. That means a small identified gift files individually, while a larger anonymous one is bundled into the monthly batch.
Once MyInvois is connected, DonorCARE checks for completed donations twice a day, stages a draft e-invoice for each one, and — if your organization has auto-submit turned on — files it with LHDN without anyone opening the donation record. This is not tax advice: it automates the filing DonorCARE can see from your donation data, and does not tell you which of your organization’s receipts must be tax-deductible or exempt.
The terms
Section titled “The terms”E-invoice — the LHDN-format document DonorCARE files for a donation, submitted through BizCARE Books’ LHDN e-Invoicing (MyInvois) channel rather than the LHDN portal directly.
Identified donor — a donor with a Malaysian TIN and ID (NRIC, passport, business registration number) validated and saved on their profile. Their donations are filed as individual e-invoices.
Consolidated invoice — one filing a month covering every donation from donors who are not identified (no TIN captured, or an anonymous gift). See Submit a monthly consolidated invoice.
Auto-submit — an organization-level switch. On, DonorCARE files a ready e-invoice with LHDN as soon as the donor’s details are complete. Off, a staff member reviews and selects Submit to LHDN for each one.
What this means in practice
Section titled “What this means in practice”Do
- Expect every completed donation to get an e-invoice draft, identified or not — DonorCARE routes it, it never skips one.
- Check a donation’s E-Invoice Status panel if you need to know exactly where a specific gift stands.
Don’t
- Assume only large donations need e-invoices. Routing depends on whether a TIN is on file, not the amount.
- Expect DonorCARE to tell you whether a receipt qualifies as tax-deductible under Malaysian law — that is a decision for your organization, not a system default.
Worked example
Section titled “Worked example”A donor gives RM500 online and enters their NRIC and address at checkout. DonorCARE validates the TIN, stages a draft e-invoice with the donor’s details, and — with auto-submit on — files it with LHDN the same day. A second donor drops RM50 through a QR code with no details captured. That gift carries no identified buyer, so it is swept into next month’s consolidated invoice instead of being filed on its own.
