Show an event on your receipt

Making a dharma event appear as a ticked checkbox on your receipt, and what happens to that checkbox when you open next year's edition.

Who can do this Owner, Admin, Finance

Your dharma receipt prints a grid of checkboxes, one for each event. Donors see a tick next to the event they gave to. A new event needs a checkbox first, and that checkbox needs to be switched on.

At a glance

  1. Create the dharma event campaign.
  2. In the campaign’s settings, tick a Website Section for it.
  3. Open your Dharma receipt template and switch the event’s checkbox on.
  4. Check a receipt to confirm the tick.
  • This applies to organizations that use dharma events and a Dharma receipt template. If you only run regular campaigns on the regular receipt template, there is nothing to set up. A published campaign shows in the receipt’s campaign strip by itself.
  • A new event’s checkbox is created switched off. Receipts print no tick for the event until you switch it on.
  • For how to design the template itself, see Customize your receipt template.
  1. Create the dharma event. Create a campaign of type Dharma Event. See Choose a campaign type.

  2. Put the event in a website section. Open the campaign’s settings. Under Website Sections, tick one or more sections. You can also add the event from Website → Builder → Campaign Sections.

Ticking a section adds a checkbox for the event to your receipt. The checkbox sits under a receipt section with the same name as the website section.

  3. Open your Dharma receipt template. In DonorCARE, open Receipts, then Templates. Select your Dharma template.

  4. Open the Ceremonies tab. Find the Ceremonies tab in the panel on the right. The Ceremony Checkboxes list groups the checkboxes by section. Find the one for your event.

  5. Switch the checkbox on. In the Active column, switch the event’s checkbox on. Select Save.

  6. Check a receipt. Issue a test receipt for a donation to the event, or use the preview. The event should show a tick.

If the campaign’s settings show an amber notice under Website Sections, the event’s checkbox is missing, switched off, or in a hidden receipt section. Select Open receipt checkboxes to go and fix it.

  • A checkbox that is linked to the event is ticked for every donation to that event.
  • A checkbox you made by hand, with no linked event, is ticked when its name matches the event or the offering name.
  • If nothing matches, the event’s name prints under 其他 / Other. This only happens when the Other row is switched on. If it is off, nothing shows.
  • A checkbox in a hidden receipt section does not print. A hidden section is marked (hidden on receipt).

If your event is not in any website section

Section titled “If your event is not in any website section”

An event that is in no website section gets no checkbox by itself. Sync from Display Sections only catches up events that are already in a section.

To add one yourself, open the Ceremonies tab and select Add row under the section you want. Name the checkbox. Select Link event on that row and choose your event. Switch the row on and select Save.

When you roll an event over to next year, the new edition goes into the same website sections. It shares the same receipt checkbox as last year’s edition.

  • If last year’s checkbox was on, next year’s receipts are ticked with nothing to set up.
  • If last year’s event had no checkbox, or it was off, the new edition is in the same state. Follow the steps above.
  • Taking last year’s edition off your website does not switch the shared checkbox off while the new edition is still listed. The checkbox switches off only when no edition that uses it is left in any website section. Deleting a website section works the same way.
  • The checkbox label has no year. A checkbox created from now on is named after the event without its year. “Ullambana 2026” becomes “Ullambana”, because every year shares it. Checkboxes created earlier keep their old name. If yours still shows a year, open the Ceremonies tab, edit the name and select Save.

For the rollover itself, see Open next year’s edition of a dharma event.

Do

  • Check a test receipt after you switch a new event’s checkbox on.
  • Switch a checkbox off if you no longer want it printed.

Don’t

  • Don’t delete an automatically created checkbox to hide it. While its event is still linked, it comes back.
  • Don’t put the year in the checkbox name. Every year’s edition shares it.
What you see What it means What to do
The receipt has no tick for the event The event’s checkbox is switched off, missing, or in a hidden receipt section Open the Ceremonies tab. Switch the checkbox on in the Active column. Make sure its section is not marked (hidden on receipt). Select Save
The event’s name appears under 其他 / Other No active checkbox matches the event Switch on the event’s checkbox, or link the event to a checkbox with Link event. Select Save
Nothing appears for the event at all No checkbox matches, and the Other row is switched off Switch the event’s checkbox on. Or switch the Other row on to catch events with no checkbox
There is no checkbox for the event in the list The event is in no website section Tick a section under Website Sections, or add a checkbox by hand with Add row and Link event
The checkbox label shows last year, for example “Ullambana 2026” The checkbox was created before labels dropped the year Edit the name in the Ceremonies tab and select Save
